so as i’ve previously posted…i want get more into visualizations.  i am completely new at it.  so i thought throwing together an infographic would be a good start.  i recently came back from an india trip where i collected a bunch of “info”.  i decided to give a stab at creating one:

i’m not too impressed with it, but i sure learned a lot already.

this was the first time i used illustrator.  wow what an awesome program.  i’m surprised i’ve never used it before.  i wish i had.  vector art is so powerful.  it makes so many things ive tried in photoshop so much easier.  the workflow is a bit different, but i’m getting a hang of it.  there’s so much more i need to learn from it.  so yea, i hope to do some really cool things with it.  you can definitely be much more creative, hence it is a drawing tool.

anyways, about the actual infographic.  i feel designwise it is pretty poor.  it’s not laid out very well.  not organized at all.  doesn’t have a flow.  it’s basically just a bunch of random stuff thrown together.  the spacing isn’t evenly distributed.  it’s all cluttered down at the bottom.  i didn’t know how to manage it without completely redoing it all.  so yea. pretty painful to the eyes.  as a graphic that’s supposed to make data easier to read, i think i’ve definitely failed. heck, even the data is pretty random and unrelated to each other.

but i’m still happy with it in terms of learning.  i think it’s a good start and it’s encouraging me to do more.  so who knows what’s next!
